Sunflower Oil


This oil is a very underrated cosmetic oil due to being commercially marketed throughout the years for culinary use. To put this in perspective, the majority of oils and butters that are cosmetically used can also be used in the kitchen such as cocoa butter, shea butter, cupuacu, avocado oil etc. However because of this marketing, a common oil like sunflower oil isn't appreciated for its cosmetic value nowadays, even though it has been used cosmetically for thousands of years around the world, reportedly first used by the native Americans for their skin and hair. It's a very beneficial oil for the skin, which is why we use it in our products. Our sunflower oil is organic, cold-pressed and B-corp certified, which shows the company has met high social and environmental standards in their business practices.

Two main components of sunflower oil that make it so beneficial to the skin are fatty acids and ceramides. The oil is made up of a total of 13 fatty acids, one fatty acid in particular, linoleic acid makes up 60% of the oil. This high percentage helps maintain the natural skin barrier and prevents transdermal water loss. Sunflower oil also contains 68% of natural ceramides, ceramides are made up of fatty acids and other compounds that act as ¨the mortar¨ for your skin cells ¨the bricks¨. Ceramides are necessary to create and maintain a strong skin barrier which stops the skin becoming damaged which can lead to dry, irritated, and sensitive skin.

It is very high in vitamin E which helps protect the skin from environmental toxins and cell damage. It also contains vitamin A, C, K, D and a range of B vitamins, which all help to protect and nourish the skin, along with improving cell turnover, skin cell growth and even out skin tone. It's very hydrating and anti-inflammatory which makes it perfect for sensitive and dry skin, it can limit redness, soothe irritated skin and increase wound healing.
